You've Got Mail

I love gifts that are more thoughtful than expensive. My Dad remarried after my mother died and my step-mom had a way of making us feel so special on our birthdays. We got to choose the dinner for the evening and what kind of cake we wanted. We were exempt from doing our chores. She made an extra effort to try and get us a gift that she thought we would love. When I mentioned to her that I began this blog I kind of just slipped it into the conversation and then went on. I told her with the extra time I had, especially on the weekends, that I had begun cooking more, and that I was enjoying every minute. I said that it was giving me great personal satisfaction as well as a feeling of accomplishment. We both just glossed over it and eventually the conversation ended. Last week she sent me a birthday present in the mail. I got it on Thursday and opened it immediately. Her exact words were "you couldn't wait?!?" It was the cook book pictured above. Every recipe is European and incredibly easy to do. Just today I worked on two different ones who's ingredients were inexpensive and easy to access. Even when I decided to make champagne sorbet the champagne I purchased was only 12.99 per bottle. When I opened the book tears came to my eyes because isn't it just something when someone gets you. When they actually listen to what you want. When they give you what you need. Thanks Mom.
