In Remembrance of Me

Anthony Paul Ternovan

Birthdays are filled with cakes and parties and hopefully many many gifts whether they are gifts of well wishes, a Facebook post, a hug, a thoughtful card or one that makes us laugh. The greatest gift of all being life. There is never a year that goes by that I don't feel a bit melancholy. I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for my brother. His sacrifice so many years ago gave me a second chance. Every year as my birthday gets closer I remember that fateful day and all that was lost and how it changed who I would become forever. There is a scene from Saving Private Ryan where the elderly man kneels in front of his comrades tombstone and questions his life and if it had lived up to the sacrifice. I feel that way every year at this time. His birthday is tomorrow. Every day I live it is for you. I hope I have made you proud and Happy Birthday.
