{Perfectly not perfect}
If I had to choose one single dessert to have for the rest of my life I would choose the sugar cookie. Cookies of any variety are my obsession but this one is at the top of the list. There is nothing more simple and utterly sweet as that. Classic and traditional, and I consider my self sort of a non-conformist at times. If someone says I have to have something or "you haven't lived" I have already made the conscious decision not to like it. I'm salty like that but with an epic sweet tooth.
The dough is made up of two cups flour, 2/3 cups unsalted stick butter (softened), 1 egg, 3/4 cup sugar, tbsp milk, tsp vanilla. Chill for three hours. Flour the surface and your roller to reduce "stickiness". I add flour until it rolls super easy and stops sticking to my hands. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees and bake for seven minutes or until a little brown on the bottom.
As I cut them out I slide the cookie cutter back and forth to separate it and so removing it is a bit easier.
I use a spatula to transfer to the baking sheet so the shapes don't fall apart. Decorate as you wish with frosting or powdered sugar icing as I did here.
I hate to admit I ate a few of these already. The great thing is there is a cookie cutter for every occasion! They are a lot of work and time consuming, but totally worth the effort I think. So get your bake on.
